The 27th Salón Internacional de la Moda Flamenca, SIMOF 2022, the only official event dedicated to this fashion sector, celebrated a very special day today with the presentation of the Flamenco en la Piel and Aromas Awards.

Flamenco en la Piel was born in 2014 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Salón Internacional de la Moda Flamenca (SIMOF). The philosophy of this recognition is to pay tribute to personalities and professionals linked to the Flamenco Fashion sector who have shown their support and have dedicated their profession or part of their lives to spreading the value of Flamenco.

The award is a piece created by the architect and graphic designer Juanjo Montoya. It is the characteristic symbol of SIMOF, the red carnation, handmade in leather on a metal base.

The SIMOF EGO space of the show has been the stage for the presentation of the Flamenco en la Piel Awards, which on this occasion have been awarded in two categories: the Flamenco en la Piel Award for Professional Career, which went to the musical group Siempre Así and the bailaor Antonio Canales; and the Honorary Flamenco en la Piel Award, for its link to flamenco fashion, which this year went to Carmen Sevilla, also the star of the poster designed by Juanjo Montoya for this year’s SIMOF, and the short film ‘Historia de un traje’, directed by the filmmaker Remedios Malvárez.

The Flamenco en la piel award for professional career, in recognition of their dedication and commitment to flamenco, has gone in previous years to the designer Lina (2014), the couturier Justo Salao (2015), the designers Victorio & Lucchino (2017), Toni Benítez and the bailaor Farruqito (2018), the cantaor Arcángel (2019) and the singer and composer Pascual González (2020).

Antonio Canales especially has flamenco in his blood. He began his career as a dancer in the Ballet Nacional. In the 80s he began to acquire international fame and after receiving numerous awards, in 1992 he created his own company, with which he premiered: A ti Carmen Amaya, Siempre Flamenco, Torero or, the unforgettable creation, Gitano. Among his many achievements are the National Dance Prize (1995) and being the European representative at the International Dance Festival in 1997.

Siempre Así was born in 1991 and has marked a generation. With them we danced and sang many songs. This group of friends, led by the singer and composer Rafa Almarcha, has performed on many stages in Spain and abroad to prove that flamenco can be danced, sung and understood anywhere in the world.
The FLAMENCO EN LA PIEL honorary award has been given to personalities who have been ambassadors of the flamenco feeling inside and outside our borders: Duquesa de Alba (2014), the cantaora (singer) Estrella Morente (2015), the bailaoras (dancers) Sara Baras (2016) and María Pagés (2017), the singers Niña Pastori (2018) and María Jiménez (2019).

The star of this year’s honorary award is Carmen Sevilla, an actress who has recorded more than 70 films, singer, dancer and Spanish TV presenter. An international star who has carried the name of Spain and Andalusia all over the world, so much so that we all know her as Carmen de España. You know who I’m talking about, don’t you?

Another clue, because of her links with the world of flamenco, cinema and fashion, she has also been the protagonist of the poster designed by Juanjo Montoya for this year’s SIMOF, and of the short film ‘Historia de un traje’, which was screened during the presentation and directed by the filmmaker Remedios Malvárez.

In the auditorium the Aromas Awards have also been awarded, which have been divided into two categories: Aromas Crea, which has gone to the designer Ana Morón; and the Aromas Award for Best Model, which has been collected by Mercedes Muñoz (Meme).

Organized by Fibes, from Seville City Office, and the Doble Erre Fashion and Communication Agency, SIMOF 2022, which began on Thursday 3 and ends tomorrow, Sunday 6 February, is dedicated this year to the province of Jaén, and its catwalks present the latest trends, design and proposals for the most versatile and innovative regional attire in the world. Thus, SIMOF is developing without incident the scheduled parades: 40 individual parades of renowned firms, and 4 collective parades among which highlights the charity parade “Andalucía Iconic Flamenco” that will take place tomorrow February 6, sponsored by Marqués de Cáceres and Clínica Doctor Ortiz, with Laboratorios Fillmed, and whose proceeds will go to the Banco de Alimentos (Food Bank) of Seville.
